Orlando Science Center – Let Your Imagination Run Wild

Life science is one of the easier sciences in terms of learning the concepts and lessons. This is because there isn’t much calculation or math involved until you get to the higher levels of science, which usually happens in college. As a direct result of being one of the easier elementary sciences, a life science project is also relatively easy to do. It usually involves a lot of observation and note taking, and using already built materials.

Each day, the boys get closer to solving each clue, while trying to keep their parents and nosey little sisters out of it. Their older sisters become involved and help them plot a midnight adventure that will have the hair on the back of your neck standing up!

Biology is the study of life and the slow but interesting process it goes through. With some butterfly nets, microscopes and hydroponics lab you can start exploring the wonders of Biology. The most exciting part of Biology is getting a microscope and seeing what different specimens look like up close. There are things you will see that you would never think of. Even planting a plant and watching it change through the weeks can give your kid an idea on what type of work goes into every living thing.

It also helps to have the entire family join in on the Science activity. Your science exploration doesn’t always have to be indoors. There’s plenty to learn from nature. A study of botany (leaves, flowers, plants) could be a simple Science workshop activity as you enjoy a hike. Call attention to the variety of fauna you see, and get your child involved in identifying them.

My own early understanding of how we can change our beliefs is through the principles of quantum mechanics. According to quantum physicist, all things in the universe, including us, are made of subatomic particles. These particles are nothing more than energy. The chair you are sitting in, down to its most subatomic makeup, is nothing more than energy. Without diving into the world of quantum theory, we can use the principles to understand how it impacts us on a personal level.

Back in the workshop, I asked the inventor when he first became interested in creating new things. For as long as he can remember, he has wanted to invent things. His first really big invention was an electric car that he made in his parents’ garage when he was in high school. It was for a science project. It went 90 miles per hour, and it traveled 60 miles on a charge. When he went off to college to University of the Pacific to double major in Electrical Engineering and Technical Theatre (odd, yes, but you can see a pattern there), he sold the car for exactly $10,000. An entrepreneur even then.

Do not include something in the story just for the sake of including it. Just as with any story, everything you write should have a purpose and help further the plot in some way. If elements of the story are thrown in to make it seem more like a science-fiction book without adding to the plot, they will detract the reader’s attention to the story rather than engage it. Write to the story first, and the science-fiction elements will come from it.
