An anode rod is a rod made of “sacrificial” metal. Like batteries, the anode produces an electrochemical reaction in the tank. The anode slowly wears away instead of the lining of the tank. As long as the anode is present and functional, almost all corrosion or rusting on the tank’s lining is prevented.
Water heaters are essentially steel tanks with vitreous glass bonded to the inside to protect the steel from rust. This sounds good but there are always seams and fittings that leave some steel exposed to the water. That’s why water heater manufacturers install a sacrificial anode rod in the tank.
Hot water is supplied to you at a rate that is constant. With older water heaters you would always have to wait for the water to warm up, and if someone used all the stored water it would have to reheat more water in order for the water to get warm again. We have all experienced this, jumping into a shower after another person who took a long shower. You know that feeling as the water starts to get cooler and cooler because all the hot water has been used up. No more of that with a tankless heater.
When removing your former water heater, you must first switch off the electricity or the gas to the heater. Then, dissipate it. You must turn on a water faucet to let air into it. The hood on a gas heater of the draft must be separated from the vent pipe. The hood must carry off once you have removed the sheet that grasps it.
Inspect the anode rod. Anode rods tend to require replacement every five years or so. This part can be removed from the top of the Water Heater Repair Ormond Beach. Be sure to turn off the cold water inlet valve before removing. If the anode rod is begins to look like a worn wire, it needs to be replaced.
The water heater will only be protected if the anode rod has enough metal hanging on it. The steel core wire keeps the sacrificial metal on the anode. Be sure to inspect the anode for an exposed core wire every two years at least.
By putting these simple steps into effect, you can greatly extend the life of your water heater and improve its efficiency. By not forgetting about your water heater, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars and a lot of aggravation.
